Mekong Odyssey
Are these group tours?
No. Every journey is private to your party, with its own vehicle and guide. You can start on any date that suits you, subject to hotel availability.
Do I need to be religious, or know about Buddhism or Islam?
No. You need to dress and behave as a respectful visitor, which our etiquette page explains. Your guide covers the background as you go.
Can a journey end in Cambodia?
Yes. The Four Cultures and Festival journeys can end with the scheduled speedboat from Chau Doc to Phnom Penh, which crosses the river border at Vinh Xuong. You arrange your own Cambodian visa; the Cambodian embassy lists visas on arrival at that checkpoint. Confirm the current rules before travel; we explain the options when we quote.
Why are your prices not on the website?
Because a five-day private journey for two and an eight-day journey for six are different products, and the hotel level and festival dates change the price more than the route does. We quote per trip once we know those details.

Tours
Which journey is right for a first visit to Vietnam?
If the delta is one part of a longer trip, the Khmer Delta (five days) or the Four Cultures (seven days) fit most easily between Ho Chi Minh City and the rest of the country. Delta to the Sea suits travellers who want to end on an island.
Can two routes be combined?
Yes. The Khmer Delta followed by the Chau Doc and Ha Tien part of Delta to the Sea makes a nine-day route across the whole south-west. We quote it as one journey.
How much time is spent in the car?
Each route page lists the drive for every day. Most days have one to two hours; the longest road day, Chau Doc back to Ho Chi Minh City, is about four and a half to five and a half hours, and we break long days with a visit.
Are the hotels luxurious?
Outside Can Tho, Chau Doc and Phu Quoc the hotel choice in the delta is limited, and in Tra Vinh, Soc Trang and Ha Tien it is simple. We name each hotel on your quote and tell you plainly what it is like.

The Khmer Delta
Can we stay overnight in a pagoda?
No. Pagodas host monks and novices, not visitors. You sleep in town hotels and visit the pagodas by day.
Is Ok Om Bok included?
Only if your dates fall on it. The festival is held at the full moon of the tenth lunar month; in 2025 the Can Tho city edition ran from 3 to 5 November. If you want it, tell us and we fix the dates around the official programme.
Can we add Chau Doc?
Yes, as two extra nights. Soc Trang to Chau Doc is about 190 km, roughly 3.5 to 4 hours, so the route becomes seven days and ends at Chau Doc or Phnom Penh.
Do monks mind being photographed?
Ask first, through your guide, and do not photograph ceremonies without permission. Our etiquette page has the details.

Festival Journey
When exactly is the Bà Chúa Xứ festival next year?
UNESCO gives the 22nd to the 27th day of the fourth lunar month. We convert that for your year and confirm against the organisers’ programme before you book.
Is it respectful for non-believers to attend?
Yes. The festival draws pilgrims and visitors from across the region. Dress modestly, do not push into the procession, and ask before photographing people at prayer.
Can we see both festivals on one trip?
No. They fall about six months apart, in the fourth and tenth lunar months.
Do we need a Cambodian visa for the boat ending?
Yes. The Cambodian embassy states that visas on arrival are available at the Kaam Samnor river checkpoint; the boat staff help with the paperwork. Check the current fee and rules before travel.
Read in full: Festival Journey.
The Four Cultures
Can we reverse the route and start in Phnom Penh?
Yes. The Hang Chau boat runs Phnom Penh to Chau Doc at 12:30, arriving about 18:30, so the first night is at Chau Doc and the route then runs south-east to finish in Ho Chi Minh City.
Is the Vietnam e-visa valid at the river border?
The 2023 government list of e-visa gates includes the Vinh Xuong road and river gate in An Giang. Check the entry and exit gates on your e-visa application before you travel.
Can we add a day at Tra Su forest?
Yes, as an extra night at Chau Doc. It is a nature visit rather than heritage, so it is not part of this route.
How much walking is there?
Little: pagoda grounds, village lanes and the Oc Eo site. The longest standing time is at Sam Mountain.

Delta to the Sea
Can we skip Phu Quoc and end in Ha Tien?
Yes, but Ha Tien has no airport; the nearest is Rach Gia, about 100 km away. Most travellers find the fast boat to Phu Quoc and a flight from there easier than driving back.
What happens if the boat to Phu Quoc is cancelled?
Boats can be suspended in rough weather. We keep you in Ha Tien another night or route you through Rach Gia, whose boats take two hours or more, and tell you before you confirm how such changes are charged.
Can we cross into Cambodia at Ha Tien?
Ha Tien has an international border gate on the 2023 e-visa list, but crossing there changes the route completely. Ask and we will draft it as a separate journey.
Is this route suitable in the rainy season?
It runs, but rain from May to November and rough seas in strong wind make the boat and the Ha Tien days less reliable. December to April is the drier window.

Pricing
Why is your quote higher than others I have seen?
Usually because ours includes a private guide on every touring day, named hotels and the boat tickets, and spreads the pagodas over enough days to see them at the right hours. Compare the lines one by one; if the other quote leaves something out, you will see it.
Can I pay in Vietnamese dong?
Quotes are in US dollars. Tell us if you need another currency and we will say what is possible.
Are entrance fees really that low?
Many of the sites on our routes are working pagodas or mosques with no published ticket price. The cost of a heritage journey is mostly the car, the guide and the hotels.
Do prices change after I confirm?
No, except for changes you ask for or new government fees, which we show you before they are charged.
Read in full: Pricing.
How to book
How long do I have to accept a quote?
Your quote states how long it is valid. After that we check the hotels and fares again before confirming.
Can I book only part of a route?
Yes, as long as it is five days or more. Tell us the part you want and where you will start and end.
Do you arrange visas?
No. Vietnam e-visas are applied for by the traveller on the official portal. We explain what you need for Cambodia if the route ends in Phnom Penh.
Can you book our flights?
We include boat tickets that are part of the route. International and domestic flights are better booked by you directly with the airline.

Destinations
Which place would you choose with only two nights?
Chau Doc, because Sam Mountain and the Cham villages give you two communities in one base. But two nights in the delta is shorter than any journey we sell.
Are Tra Vinh and Soc Trang very different?
Both are Khmer towns with many pagodas. Soc Trang also has a visible Hoa community and the Ok Om Bok boat races; Tra Vinh has Ao Bà Om and a quieter countryside.
Do I need to know the new province names?
Not for travel. Signs, buses and people still use the town names. We mention the new provinces only where they matter for maps or official notices.
Is Can Tho worth a page of its own?
For a heritage trip it is a one-night stop with two key sites, so we cover it inside the routes.
Read in full: Destinations.
Tra Vinh
Is Tra Vinh still a province?
No. Since 1 July 2025 the former Tra Vinh province is part of Vinh Long province. The town and its name are unchanged.
Can women enter Khmer pagodas?
Yes, as visitors, dressed modestly. If you want to offer something to a monk, ask your guide first how it is done.
Is there a fee at Ao Bà Om?
We found no official published fee. Ask locally; if one is charged on our journeys it is included.
Can I visit Tra Vinh as a day trip from Ho Chi Minh City?
It is about five to six hours of driving there and back. It can be done, but you would see Ao Bà Om at midday and nothing else. We do not offer it.
Read in full: Tra Vinh.
Soc Trang
Are the bats always there?
Fruit bats have long roosted in the grounds of Chùa Dơi and give the pagoda its name. Numbers vary; your guide will tell you what to expect when you visit.
Can visitors watch the ghe Ngo races?
Yes. The races are public, along the Maspéro river. Viewing spots fill early; we plan the day around the published programme.
Is Soc Trang part of Can Tho now?
Yes. Since July 2025 the former Soc Trang province is part of Can Tho city. The town is still called Soc Trang.
Is there a dress code at the Bat pagoda?
The usual one for pagodas: elbows and knees covered, shoes off where asked, quiet in the halls.
Read in full: Soc Trang.
Chau Doc & Sam Mountain
Is the cable car worth it?
It saves the climb on a hot day. The summit can also be reached by road, so the cable car is a choice, not a necessity.
Can I visit the mosques on a Friday?
Friday midday prayers are the busiest time; we avoid them. Other days, outside prayer times, visitors are generally welcome in the courtyards.
Do I need a visa to take the boat to Phnom Penh?
Yes, a Cambodian visa. The Cambodian embassy lists visas on arrival at Kaam Samnor; check the current fee before travel. Your Vietnam e-visa must allow exit at Vinh Xuong.
Is Chau Doc safe in the flood season?
Road travel continues. In 2025 the flood peak at Chau Doc was forecast near alarm level II, well below the 2000 record. Riverside streets in Can Tho and Vinh Long flood at the highest tides in October and November, and in 2025 the authorities advised residents to limit travel at high tide; we plan around those hours.

Ha Tien
Who was Mạc Cửu?
A man from Leizhou in Guangdong who led Chinese and Vietnamese settlers on this coast under the Cambodian king, then turned to the Nguyễn lords in 1708 and became governor of Ha Tien. He died in 1735.
Which boat to Phu Quoc should we take?
The fast boats are quicker; the car ferry takes about three hours. We book the fast boat unless you are travelling with a vehicle.
Can we cross into Cambodia from Ha Tien?
Yes, the international gate is on the e-visa list. It changes the route completely, so ask us for a separate draft.
Is Ha Tien worth two nights?
For a heritage journey, yes: one full day for the Mạc tombs, the pagodas and the lagoon. For a beach-focused trip, one night before the boat is enough.
Read in full: Ha Tien.
The four cultures
Are the Khmer of the delta Cambodian?
They are Vietnamese citizens of Khmer ethnicity, with their own language, Theravada Buddhism and close cultural ties to Cambodia. Use the word Khmer; your guide can explain the history in more detail.
Can non-Muslims visit the Cham mosques?
Yes, outside prayer times and dressed modestly, with women covering their hair. Ask before entering homes.
Who is Bà Chúa Xứ?
The Lady of the Realm, a protective goddess worshipped at the foot of Sam Mountain. UNESCO inscribed her festival in 2024.
Is Oc Eo a World Heritage Site?
Not as of October 2026. The nomination dossier was submitted on 29 January 2026, and a decision is expected at the World Heritage Committee session planned for mid-2027. The site is a special national relic.

Temple & mosque etiquette
Do I have to take off my shoes everywhere?
Not everywhere. Pagoda halls where asked and mosque prayer halls, yes; courtyards usually not. Look for shoes at the door or follow your guide.
Can I wear shorts if it is very hot?
Not into sacred places. Wear light long trousers or a long skirt, or carry a sarong to put on at the gate.
Is it rude to photograph monks?
It is rude without asking. Ask through your guide; most will agree for a respectful picture outside a ceremony.
Should I bring offerings?
You do not need to. If you wish, fresh flowers or fruit are suitable; your guide can buy them on the way.

When to go
Is the rainy season a bad time for a cultural trip?
Not a bad time, a different one. Sites stay open; you plan around afternoon showers and mosquitoes.
When is Ok Om Bok this year?
At the full moon of the tenth lunar month. The organisers set the programme each year; in 2025 it ran 3 to 5 November. We confirm dates when you enquire.
Does the flood stop travel to Chau Doc?
Not by road. It can stop large river cruise ships reaching Chau Doc under low bridges.
What about Tết, the Lunar New Year?
Many businesses close for several days and hotels and transport are busy. We can plan a journey then, but say so early and expect fewer choices.
Read in full: When to go.
About us
Are you a travel agency or a tour operator?
We plan and run private journeys: we design the route, book the hotels, vehicle, guide and boats, and stay responsible for the trip while you travel.
Do your guides belong to the communities you visit?
We assign guides by route and language. If a guide from a particular community matters to you, tell us and we will say what is possible for your dates.
Why only the Mekong Delta?
Because doing one region properly is enough work. Our routes can end in Phnom Penh or Phu Quoc, and you can join them to a longer trip arranged elsewhere.
